Agreeing with the other critiques, I like this contrast of subject vs. background.
The guy is erected, he feels safe and comfortable, I also agree with the observation of empty space above him but the feet planted on the ground.
It gives me a sensation he is very confident and looking to the horizon, behind the spectator. Stable but looking forward, literally.
I like the nuances and textures on the background and finally, I also agree that some light on his shoes would be the final touch to the pic.
